What Inspires Me: Alejandra Blanco

Inspiration can arrive in unexpected ways, but for Alejandra Blanco, it’s rarely about chasing the grand or dramatic. Her creativity often comes from something simple... something familiar.
“The quiet beauty of everyday life is often overlooked, but it’s in these ordinary things that I find the deepest sense of connection, peace, and inspiration.”
That sense of grounding became especially important during the years she and her husband moved from country to country with the foreign service. Each new place came with different languages, foods, and customs. The changes were exciting but also overwhelming. What helped her adjust were the small things she carried with her: a favorite mug, a hand-carved wooden box, a painting she’d made years before.

"Company" by Alejandra Blanco
“These things weren’t valuable in a monetary sense,” she explains, “but they were irreplaceable. They reminded me of who I was, where I came from, and what I loved. They offered me a sense of continuity in the middle of all that change.”
Through all the moving and unpacking, her art became another constant. No matter where she landed, she would set up her brushes and oils, create a small corner of her own, and begin painting. It became the thread tying together so many different chapters of her life.

Alejandra doesn’t seek to capture sweeping vistas or dazzling spectacles. Instead, her attention is drawn to the fleeting, the subtle- the kind of small details that might slip by unnoticed but somehow carry great weight.
Her painting process mirrors this quiet depth. She works slowly, in translucent layers of oil paint, each one adding nuance and dimension.
“Each layer holds part of the story, like sediment collecting in water,” she says. “It creates a sense of depth that can’t be achieved all at once.”
Light plays a central role in her work as well, shifting across the surface of her paintings, changing the mood as the day unfolds. She doesn’t chase realism but explores perception; How color and light alter not just the canvas, but the way we feel when looking at it.

"Cuties" by Alejandra Blanco
This philosophy extends beyond her studio. In a world that’s constantly changing, Alejandra encourages us to pause and notice the smallest of details: a familiar texture, the way sunlight moves through a room, the objects that remind us of home.
“Whether you’re an artist or not, we all need ways to stay grounded. For me, art is a way of making sense of the world and finding beauty in the everyday.”

"Two are a pair" by Alejandra Blanco
Alejandra’s work is a reminder that inspiration doesn’t always shout; sometimes it whispers. And often, it’s waiting for us in the ordinary moments we tend to overlook.
