A Vision Brought to Life

Every great gallery has a heartbeat- a space that sets the tone, invites connection, and makes art feel personal. At Create Gallery and Frames, that heartbeat is the Cozy Corner.
When co-owner Joan Edwards first envisioned the gallery, she knew she wanted something beyond the traditional white walls and open floor plan.
“As I visualized what our gallery would look like; I had wanted a place for people to sit with a piece of art, a comfortable place that felt like home.”
From Idea to Blueprint
The space began as a simple L-shape in the gallery. Joan explains:
“It started as an L-shaped space in the gallery. Leo had built the skeleton of the walls already.”
The idea blossomed further during a conversation with her branding agent.
“I was meeting with my branding agent, Juliana Goldberg, and we were discussing my vision for the space, and she mentioned that she wanted to share something that she had done in her photography business. She described the room she had. Instantly my brain started to design a space in our gallery. We would add another wall and a door to the L-shape and add a door.”

A Dual Purpose

From the start, Joan wanted the Cozy Corner to be functional as well as beautiful.
“My next thought was that it would be great for framing also. I had already purchased a framing software/POS system called Virtual Framer, which allowed you to design your frame and show it on a screen for representation of how you’d like it to be in your home. You could upload a picture of the wall you wanted to put it on as well. So why not add this to the room also? We could make it feel cozy and like a home.”
That vision meant the space needed careful design and engineering.
“Leo was stressing a little to get it done- good thing he is an excellent construction designer and engineer in his previous life. He modified the design and added the extra wall with the door and a ceiling for great structural integrity. Leo and our friend Wayne drywalled and textured the walls and ceiling. Then we used neutral grays, per my background in color, better for viewing colors as they are seen.”
Creating Warmth and Function
Once the structure was in place, Joan turned her focus to warmth and usability.
“Next came the lighting which had to be adjustable, on each wall. I ordered furniture, and pillows and a throw blanket to make it cozy. Next, we had to have some function in the room for frame corner samples and for mat samples. We put credenzas in for mat samples and Leo built, carpeted, and framed 8x4 ft plywood. Here we hung the corners on the plywood and hung it on the wall. It is a beautiful piece of art plus a functional piece for frame samples.”

A Room for Connection

Now, the Cozy Corner serves as a warm, welcoming place where art and conversation flow naturally.
“We have used this room several times and I just love how cozy it feels. I can bring a client in the room, offer them a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, we can sit on the cozy couch and view a piece of art or design a frame.”
Why the Cozy Corner Matters
The Cozy Corner reflects Create Gallery and Frames’ mission: Art should be approachable, lived with, and enjoyed in spaces that feel personal. What began as an idea for an unused nook has become one of the gallery’s most inviting features- where conversations spark, clients linger, and art is experienced the way it was meant to be: in comfort.
