First Friday in Garden City: Art, Community & a Little Mini Golf

First Friday is back in Garden City on Friday, October 2, and this month there’s even more reason to make Create Gallery and Frames one of your stops!

The SUREL Mitchell Live-Work-Create District’s First Friday brings together artists, studios, galleries, and local businesses throughout Garden City for an evening of exploring the local arts community. From 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, visitors can make their way through participating locations, discover local art, meet artists and creatives, and experience everything happening throughout the district.

And this month, there’s even a little mini golf involved.

Create Gallery and Frames Is Part of the Open Studio Scramble

As part of October’s First Friday festivities, SUREL’s Place is hosting an Open Studio Scramble from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Six mini-golf holes will be set up at locations throughout the Live-Work-Create District, and Create Gallery and Frames is one of the six stops. You’ll find our mini-golf hole in the back parking area at 3520 W Chinden Blvd.

Participants can travel from location to location, play all six holes, and then bring their scorecard back to SUREL’s Place during Illuminated! to hold it under a black light and see if they’ve won a prize.

It’s a fun way to experience First Friday and discover some of the creative spaces that make Garden City’s arts community so unique.

See Nature’s Dialogue While You’re Here

We’re currently between exhibitions at Create, but we’re keeping Nature’s Dialogue on view for First Friday.

Featuring work by Leo Bratenas and Fonny Davidson, Nature’s Dialogue brings together two artists with distinct approaches to interpreting and responding to the natural world.

If you weren’t able to visit during the exhibition or attend the September artist reception, First Friday gives you another opportunity to experience the work in person before we transition into what’s coming next at Create.

While you’re here for the Open Studio Scramble, come inside and spend some time with the exhibition. You can also explore work from other artists throughout the gallery and see what’s happening in our custom framing studio.

Whether you regularly visit Create or have never stepped inside before, First Friday is a great night to stop by.

Explore Garden City’s Creative Community

One of our favorite things about First Friday is that it isn’t about visiting just one gallery or studio. The entire evening is an opportunity to explore the creative community that exists throughout Garden City.

October’s First Friday includes exhibitions, open studios, performances, the Open Studio Scramble, and the fifth anniversary of Illuminated! at SUREL’s Place, where immersive projections and light-based art experiences will take over the space from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Start at one location and see where the evening takes you. Discover an artist you haven’t seen before, visit a studio you’ve always wondered about, play a few holes of mini golf, and experience Garden City through its art.
