What One Year Running an Art Gallery Taught Us About Art, Framing, and Community
One year ago, we opened Create Gallery and Frames with a clear vision - to create a space where fine art, custom framing, and community could exist together.
Since then, we’ve learned more than we expected. Not just about art, but about how people connect with it, live with it, and value it.
After one year of conversations, installations, exhibitions, and framing projects, here’s what stands out.
As we approach our one-year anniversary this weekend, we’ve been reflecting on everything this first year has taught us.
1. People Don’t Need to Understand Art - They Need to Feel It

One of the biggest things we’ve seen this year is how often people hold themselves back because they think they need to “get it.”
They don’t.
Connection always comes first. The meaning follows.
2. The Right Piece Creates an Immediate Shift

We’ve watched people walk through the gallery, stop mid-step, and go back to a piece.
That moment matters.
Art has the ability to change how a space feels almost instantly - and when the right piece is found, people know.
3. Custom Framing Changes Everything

If there’s one thing this year made clear, it’s this:
Framing is not optional.
We’ve seen artwork go from “nice” to completely elevated with the right materials, matting, and scale.
It’s the difference between something sitting on a wall and something belonging there.
4. Most People Aren’t “Collectors” - Until They Are

Almost no one walks in calling themselves a collector.
But we’ve seen it happen all year - someone connects with a piece, takes it home, and suddenly their perspective shifts.
Buying art isn’t a title. It’s a moment.
5. Original Art Holds More Weight Than People Expect

Seeing art in person changes everything.
Texture, scale, depth - these are things you can’t fully understand online.
That’s why stepping into a gallery still matters.
6. Community Is What Makes a Gallery Work

This was one of the biggest lessons.
A gallery isn’t just about what’s on the walls - it’s about who walks through the door.
Exhibitions like Bold Women, Soft Walls reminded us how powerful it is to bring artists and community together in one space - and that same energy is exactly what we’re carrying into our one-year celebration this weekend.
7. Running a Gallery Is Equal Parts Creative and Strategic

From the outside, it looks creative.
Behind the scenes, it’s constant decision-making - curating, installing, marketing, framing, planning events.
This year reinforced that building a gallery isn’t just about art. It’s about intention.
8. People Crave In-Person Experiences More Than Ever

In a digital world, physical spaces matter more.
We’ve seen how much people value walking into a space, seeing artwork up close, and having real conversations.
It’s something you can’t replicate online.
