Sight Unseen: A week-long immersive, multi-sensory art experience designed for blind and visually-impaired audiences, to be experienced by all.

Sight Unseen

What if art could be experienced through more than sight alone?

From June 8-13, Create Gallery and Frames will host Sight Unseen, a week-long multi-sensory arts experience that brings together blind, visually impaired, and sighted participants through art, movement, touch, conversation, and shared exploration.

At its core, Sight Unseen is built on a simple idea: art belongs to everyone.

This video explores the mission behind Sight Unseen. Through discussions on tactile art, accessibility, sensory exploration, and disability inclusion, it highlights how creativity can be experienced beyond vision and how the arts can foster greater understanding, connection, and belonging across communities.

What Is The Mind's Eye?

The Mind's Eye is an immersive, interactive installation created by Leo Bratenas, Martha Channer, and Craig Mitchell for Sight Unseen. Designed as a tactile art corridor, the experience invites visitors to move beyond visual observation and engage with art through touch, movement, texture, and sensory exploration.

As participants navigate the installation, they are encouraged to slow down, become more aware of their surroundings, and consider how we experience and interpret the world through more than sight alone. The Mind's Eye offers a unique opportunity to explore artistic space from a different perspective while fostering greater understanding of the sensory experiences of blind and visually impaired individuals.

Presented during the Sight Unseen Showcase Performance and Silent Auction on June 13, this interactive installation is intended for exploration, curiosity, and connection. Each visitor's experience may be different, making The Mind's Eye a personal journey through art, perception, and discovery.

You can also attend the Showcase Performance and Silent Auction on June 13. Whether you choose to participate, observe, or simply explore, there are many ways to engage with the event.

Do I need any art or dance experience?

Not at all. Most experiences are beginner-friendly and designed for curious participants of all backgrounds.

What should I wear?

Are children welcome?

Yes. Families are welcome to attend Sight Unseen. While some workshops and discussions may be better suited for older children and adults, visitors of all ages are encouraged to explore the exhibition, experience The Mind's Eye installation, and engage with the event in ways that are meaningful to them. We recommend that parents review individual workshop descriptions to determine whether a particular activity is a good fit for their child.

What if I've never attended anything like this before?

Perfect. Many participants will be experiencing these concepts for the first time. Curiosity is the only requirement.
